We don’t know about you, but with summer just around the corner, beach vacations are on our mind. Before you check out of work and hit the beach, you have to pack. We know, it’s a bit of a hassle when you want to be well-dressed and you’re living out of a suitcase for days on end. No stressing though, we’ve been there, done that, and we know just what to bring to look effortlessly chic on your next beach vacation.
Choose Breezy Fabrics
Our summer vacation wardrobe consists of breezy fabrics that pack well. Think: rayon, cotton, silk, linen. These fabrics are perfect for hot summer weather, don’t easily wrinkle (no need for an iron!) and take you from the beach to a night out on the town. Our favorite for a casual but chic nighttime look? Linen pants paired with a flowy, rayon top. Add strappy sandals and a light sweater for layering, and you’ll look put together and timeless.
Go for the Basics
Packing vacation outfits for multiple days sounds daunting, but it’s not. Just pack a few staples that can be paired in different ways. Choose a neutral to pack around, and bring in other accent pieces that go well with your color pallette. Go for classic, simple colors that coordinate well together, throw in a striped shirt and a boho dress, and you’re covered! Bring one piece (we love a floral dress!) that’s bold and fun, for spontaneity.
Be Aware of the Weather
Nothing ruins a vacation (or your effortless look!) faster than packing for the wrong weather. Luckily, we live in the age of technology and can appropriately prepare. Wait until you’re a few days out (no more than five days, and you should be in the safe zone for accuracy), and pack accordingly.
You’re going to be in your swimsuit most of the time anyway. A good rule of thumb for trips less than one week? One shirt per day, one lightweight sweater for layering, one bottom for every two days, a summer dress, and your bathing suit, coverup and beach blanket. Pro tip: call ahead to your hotel or homestay to find out if they have a blow dryer or straightener. This way, you don’t need to add bulk to your bag but you can still manage to have the perfect hair day (key for looking effortless).
Shoes can make or break an outfit. Flip flops are great, sure, but they don’t tend to work for much other than the beach. To look truly effortless, wear strappy sandals for an easy, elevated look that will translate well from the beach to a night out. Even better, they pair well with everything from a simple cover-up to your favorite romper to a sundress, so you don’t have to worry about packing too many additional pairs of shoes (unless, of course, you’re like us a like a few options!)
